Radioactive Waste and Spent Fuel Management
Introduction To the Courses
Introduction to Data Analysis and Machine Learning
This course serves as an introduction to programming with Python, statistics, and their applications. Statistics are mathematical tools that can describe and summarize information and processes. Topics include principles of measurement, measures of central tendency and variability, probability distributions, correlation, and regression. Students will simultaneously learn programming in Python to help perform select statistical analysis. Near the end of the course, an introduction to artificial intelligence and machine learning is presented.
NPP Project Deployment
This course presents a variety of concerns and activities required for the implementation of a national civil nuclear energy program. An introduction to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) milestones approach in the development of nineteen infrastructure issues (IAEA NG-G-3.1: natural position, nuclear safety, management, funding and financing, legal framework, safeguards, regulatory framework, radiation protection, electrical grid, human resource development, stakeholder involvement, site and supporting facilities, environmental protection, emergency planning, nuclear security, nuclear fuel cycle, radioactive waste management, industrial involvement, procurement), as well as tie-ins to environmental impact assessment type reporting and portions of Nuclear Regulatory Commission style safety reports (i.e. US NRC NUREG 0800). Concepts are diverse, but coverage focuses on phases related to milestones 1 (pre-project activities) and 2 (project development). There will be notable scheduling constraints and thus not all topics can be covered in detail.
NPP Site Hazard Analysis and Evaluation
This course presents several modern analysis techniques and processes used in evaluating the impact certain natural hazards have on nuclear power plant site evaluation and selection activities. The natural hazards considered include meteorological, flood, and earthquake hazards; hazards that are not only important in site evaluation and selection activities, but also in design documents, construction, safety analysis and review. In addition to various statistical techniques, special review processes are also introduced.
Special Issues in NPP Natural Hazards Analysis
This course has students perform a specific natural hazard analysis and then take a deeper look into the issues governing how the analysis was performed as well as the components involved in the results. Students will undergo the basic life cycle of characterizing, modeling, and computing.
